Kind & nice staff, but lack of knowledge

Posted by WSO on 1/22/2008

We took our lovely dog to them Tuesday morning. At that time, he looked ok and relatively healthy! At least he can run, walk, etc. And the doctor at the Animal Hospital Champions NW said ?he doesn?t look that sick? (compare with his bloood test we got from the emergency clinic). So he was admitted to this hospital and given another bloood test. Bloood test result came back the same day indicating the same problem ? super low protein level. None of the doctors over there knew what causes the protein level dropped. Our dog was then given plasma transfusion for the next day?s (Wednesday morning) biopsy. His health condition got worse dramatically since his stay there. The doctors at the Animal Hospital Champions NW didn?t know the cause and what kind of treatment he needed. They just kept telling us to wait for the lab (biopsy) result. 4 days after he was admitted to the hospital, we finally got the lab result (Friday late afternoon) indicating he ?might? have Phycomycosis, which the doctor said ?it?s a disease they've never heard of!!? Although the doctor tried to do a surgery immediately that night, they called us back that night and said ?whatever that is, it?s everywhere in his stomach, and it?s impossible to surgically remove them.? We then have to put our lovely dog down. Till now, almost 2 weeks after he died, they still cannot tell us the detailed lab result and confirm if its Phycomycosis that caused his death. They said it?s not their priority at the moment (I guess since he?s dead!). But to us, it?s important to know and we want to avoid this ever happened again! The doctors were kind and nice, but lack of knowledge!! And the delay of the lab result was unacceptable. If we had gotten the result ASAP (like Wednesday), our dog might still have a chance. As a hospital, for human or animal, EVERY minute counts! And our dog suffered 4 days and then died because of the delay and lack of knowledge of the doctors there were disappointing!
